Since 2014, RPGaDay poses daily questions about RPGs in August.
Since 2015, we resist by delivering daily thematic material for RPGs in August.
This year, the theme of the alternate August activity was to be “allies”. Ally-a-Day.
But what is that? The enemy appears to lower their arms. Instead of posing questions, RPGaDay2019 presents single word prompts, suddenly opening a path leading past the About towards the For.
While we do not wish to ignore the hand so offered, neither do we wish to cast out our allies because the enemy for once appears conciliatory.
Neither just RPG-a-Day nor just Ally-a-Day.
Not or, but and.
Not minus. Plus.

Day 10: Focus + Allies
Gerontocrats
The Gerontocrats are one of the political parties in the governing planetary senate of Gaiapolis, an independent planet in the Deep Periphery beyond the Tortuga Dominions. The Gerontocrats represent the interests of the original colonists and their offspring born during and immediately following the colonization, who fled the Inner Sphere and near Periphery due to the continual strife and destruction of the Third Succession War. This history motivates the Gerontocrats’ wish for staying largely isolated from the happenings in the Inner Sphere. In this, they face growing opposition from both Gaiapolis’ small MechWarrior nobility, the second column of planetary power besides the civilian government and administration under the democratically elected senate, and various factions of the second generation of colonists, who advocate for relations with the Inner Sphere or even a return to it. Due to their dwindling power base, the Gerontocrats see themselves forced into a coalition with the Gaians, focussed on continued isolationism.

Gaians
The Gaians are one of the political parties in the planetary senate of Gaiapolis. Their members mostly stem from the youngest, third and fourth, generations of colonists, to whom the Inner Sphere and indeed the rest of humanity beyond Gaiapolis mean little. They rather see their future and that of their children in making the promise of Gaiapolis naming come true and transform the only marginally habitable world into a paradise. To that end, they wish to invest the colony’s resources into various long term agricultural development and terraforming schemes, as well as cut any remaining ties with the rest of humanity. In focussing on the latter, they find willing allies in the Gerontocrats.
