Day 28: Warhammer 40,000
Feet of the Penitent
Sandals of this kind are made from the flayed and cured skin of a dead penitent’s feet. Wearing them supposedly makes the penitence of the donor apply to the wearer as well, who with every step taken now walks a penitent’s path. However, taking off the sandals is said to sever this connection and have the full weight of the wearer’s sins fall back on him without the benefit of the shared penitence. Because of this, wearers who are convinced of the sandals power rarely take them off again, instead choosing to wear them until they die. Over time, the old skin fuses with their own so that even in death, the sandals will no longer come off and have to be cut from their feet, creating a renewed pair of feet of the penitent in the process.
In Dark Heresy and its related Warhammer 40.000 Roleplay games Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade, and Only War, feet of the penitent can be portrayed with the following rules.
Whenever the wearer of feet of the penitent gains a level of fatigue, they may exchange one Corruption Point against one Insanity Point.
If the wearer ever takes of the feet of the penitent or if they don other footwear over the feet of the penitent, they immediately regain all Corruption Points they previously exchanged. The Insanity Points remain.
