Space Smallholders

This one is surprisingly(?) concrete and close to realisation, yet there is really not that much more to write than with a lot of the far rougher sketches already presented this month.

“Schollenspiel” is a older concept for a game, and work on it has barely advanced since 2017.

But around two months ago, there actually was a bit of movement, because I had a sudden inspiration regarding a variation on the theme, a shift in underlying genre: Smallholding – in space. Taking the basic layout of Schollenspiel, the idea of the local, hearthbound, seasonal, event- and ressource-driven game, and applying it not to a farmstead but to a space mining operation (either asteroid mining or cloud mining in a gas giant).

The core mechanics are a direct carry-over. As with the farmstead version, the work is in putting together the event packages. Work that still needs doing.

  1. “Die Kernmechaniken sind direkt übertragbar. Wie schon bei der Vorlage steckt die Arbeit natürlich in den Ereignissen. Und diese Arbeit wäre noch zu tun.”
