Day 8: The Red Star

Pirates of Punt
Despite the prominence of skyships, the oceans continue to play an important economic role both as transport routes and resource areas. Little wonder then, that piracy, too, continues on the world’s waterways, with a major hotspot in more recent times being the waters around Punt. Devastated by long civil war and a descent into warlordism after the end of Ironhold, the instability of Punt allowed pirates to thrive, helped along by the large scale intrusion of foreign commercial fishing vessels into Punt’s exclusive economic zone, destroying the traditional livelihood of a coastal population. The pirates of Punt generally operate small high speed boats, masking their approach with the help of local sorceresses before employing automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenades to stop ships, extorting money, kidnapping crew or passengers, stealing cargo or seizing the entire vessel.

Notes:
The main work with any The Red Star article dealing with a new nation or region is always to figure out a name fitting into the campaign setting’s conventions. Other than that, this is obviously straight up Somalia, with the few token adjustments for the setting’s fantastic elements.
