The Children-Pirates of Gula
Intra-system piracy has always been present in the heavily trafficked Gula star system. This endemic problem began to reach a new level and quality with the mutiny of the Blossom of Gula‘s shipboard machinist-child-slaves and their freeing of the vessel’s cargo of children and juvenile delinquents destined for the mines and penal-factories of Gula’s outermost asteroid belt. Other pirates, intent on capturing what they saw as an easy prize, became the first victims when their own child-labourers rose up, incited by the Blossom of Gula‘s crew. To this new pirate threat, a recruitment pool of sheer unlimited depth opened up in the form of Gula’s tradition of treating children as commodities, every raid swelling their ranks, every visit to a harbour bringing countless volunteers.
