Cog of the Martyred Omnissiah – a treasure for Warhammer 40,000
A human figure is afixed to this Adeptus Mechanicus cog with multiple clearly visible screws.

It is a mark and holy symbol of a heretical sect calling itself the Cult of Critical Divergence. Its members mostly stem from the Adeptus Mechanicus but some also come from the Ecclesiarchy and other imperial organisations.

Primarily, the cult is a philosophical school of thought, seeking a complete synthesis between ecclesiarchical and Martian teachings. The key to such a grand unification is seen in the sacrifice of the Emperor-Omnissiah to and by the Machine in the form of the Golden Throne.

Due to their many violations of both orthodoxies and their critical examinations of existing dogma, the members of the Divergence openly wear the cog of the martyred Omnissiah mostly when meeting in special conclave.

Why Warhammer 40,000?
Of the many cog symbols present in RPG settings, the Adeptus Mechanicus was simply the first to come to our minds at the time. The combination of holy symbol and nails quickly brought us to the cross. Only with screws.

Loot-a-Day is a month-long German blogging challenge by fellow German blogger Greifenklaue, who was inspired by ArtifactaDay which we ran last August as a counterpoint to RPGaDay in Germany. We followed up on this with two more marathons of daily content about artificial creatures and science-gone-too-far, respectively, and now Greifenklaue seeks to spread the format.
