RPG+Ally+a+Day: Polaris Engineering + Calamity Inc., calamity + allies for Battletech

Since 2014, RPGaDay poses daily questions about RPGs in August.
Since 2015, we resist by delivering daily thematic material for RPGs in August.
This year, the theme of the alternate August activity was to be “allies”. Ally-a-Day.
But what is that? The enemy appears to lower their arms. Instead of posing questions, RPGaDay2019 presents single word prompts, suddenly opening a path leading past the About towards the For.
While we do not wish to ignore the hand so offered, neither do we wish to cast out our allies because the enemy for once appears conciliatory.
Neither just RPG-a-Day nor just Ally-a-Day.
Not or, but and.
Not minus. Plus.

Day 25: Calamity + Allies

Polaris Engineering
Polaris Engineering operates – barely, due to loss of technical competence and technological base – Star League refineries and chemical plants on a number of worlds. By now, accidents and near calamities there have become so common as to be an almost regular occurence. Polaris Engineering tries their best at damage control by seeking a close relation with Calamity Inc..

Calamity Inc.
Calamity Inc. are rescue service mercenaries. The technological downfall of the Succession Wars hit the civilian sector far harder than it did the military. Special equipment and systems, once readily available for various tasks, are getting scarce or have vanished altogether, along with the necessary expertise for their usage and employment. For a price, Calamity Inc. provides that expertise and the specialist equipment in the shape of a small collection of working salvage-, construction- and firemechs. A lot of the mercenaries’ work now comes from Polaris Engineering and the company’s collapsing Star League era chemical industrial complexes have become their main area of operations.
