Explosive Jaw
The techpriests’ quest for ways to overcome the sin of being flesh knows no anatomical bounds. It encompasses all parts and all functions of the human form, not least the body’s energy supply, the act of feeding and process of digestion. Amongst the range of Mechanicus dental implants with their sometimes radical restructuring of the uppermost parts of the digestive tract is the so called explosive jaw. This implant includes a structural reinforcement or replacement of the jaws and oral cavity along a dispenser system for an unstable liquid explosive compound. Like explosive saliva, this compound covers the teeth, only to be triggered by the mechanical pressure of a forceful bite. The resulting microexplosions do no lasting harm to the reinforced mouth parts of the bearer but will rip and blast apart even the toughest of foods – as well as anything else the techpriest might choose to sink their teeth into.
More brutal and less advanced variants of these machine-hallowed implants have found their way into the hands – and mouths – of chrono-gladiators and hive gangers on some worlds. Such rough copies normally do not employ the special liquid explosive compounds, instead consisting of traditional solid charges replacing some – or all – of the bearer’s teeth. Sometimes they might even use straight up bolter shells, screwed directly into the jaws, case-first.
In Dark Heresy and its related Warhammer 40,000 RPGs Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade and Only War, unarmed attacks by a character equipped with an explosive jaw deal 1d5+Strength bonus X damage. Explosive jaws are very rare.
