In addition to sorcerous control systems, vehicles in The Red Star may also sport sorcerous upgrades to their engines:
Protocol Afterburners
This modification allows protocol energy from a sorceress to be fed directly into a vehicle’s engines, significantly increasing power and speed.
To use protocol afterburners in a round, a sorceress on board the vehicle has to take a set amount of non-lethal damage depending on the vehicle’s size: 2 points for a large vehicle and 4 points for a huge vehicle. Powering the protocol afterburners does not take an action for the sorceress. When in use, protocol afterburners increase the vehicle’s top speed by 10% for that round.
Protocol afterburners can be mounted in any large or huge vehicle and increase the vehicle’s Purchase DC by +2 (Mil).
There are dangerously unstable experimental variants of the system, which increase speed by 50% while they are in use, but which also cause 1d4 Constitution damage each round in addition to the non-lethal damage. These unstable systems increase Purchase DC by +3 (Mil) instead of +2.
