Chess Campaign
This one will have to stay in concept stage – I am simply not good enough at chess to realize it.
Chess during the Cold War. With The Red Star.
This is directly inspired by Dangerous Moves, the 1984 movie. Since I saw it for the first time, the idea of bringing this to the table has haunted me. By now, The Red Star would be my system of choice, not least because the movie already strays into the field of hypnosis and mental powers, and breaking out into the outright supernatural is thus an easy way to open up room for (player) maneuvres clearly beyond what is already present in the movie, without losing touch with it completely.
Now go watch it.

Ein wirklich reizvolles Konzept, aber als ebenfalls miserabler Schachspieler frage ich mich, ob das regelgetreue Figurenrücken auf dem 8×8-Brett dafür wirklich notwendig ist.
Ist das Schachspiel hier nicht eine Metapher für den übergeordneten Konflikt (so sagt auch die Zusammenfassung des erwähnten Films auf IMDB) und kann damit abstrahiert werden? Hier kann ich nicht aus meiner Haut und denke direkt wieder an einige Brettspiele, bei denen genau das der Fall ist und die dennoch (mehr oder weniger gelungen) das geistige Kräftemessen abbilden, wie etwa Match of the Century, Queen’s Gambit – The Boardgame oder, wenn man auf einem originalen Schachbrett einfach nur für Verwirrung und Chaos sorgen möchte, Knightmare Chess.
