Aineias Echo Buffer – Homer in Warhammer 40,000

A Reading from Homer by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema
Homer-a-Day, Day 30: Aineias

Aineias Echo Buffer
Rare as it may be, the phenomenon of shreds and echoes of a dying techpriest’s – or other individual’s with an MIU interface – memories and personality surviving in the circuitry and data stores of linked machinery is a documented if not well understood machine miracle. The Aineias echo buffer seeks to unravel this mystery, trying to catch and preserve the flickering spark of awareness and intelligence in hopes of coaxing it from its hiding place in the labyrinth of crytalline circuitry back into the gyrating mass of grey matter from whence it fled.

An Aineias echo buffer is a near unique cybernetic system. It requires an implanted MIU of good or better craftsmanship to function. If a character with an echo buffer suffers critical damage to the head which would kill him, there is a 1 in 10 chance that the character instead survives, just as if the character had burned a Fate Point.

yandere: […] Homer weeks for 40k.
blut_und_glas: […] Homer-a-Day?

Homer-a-Day – one Homer inspired Warhammer 40,000 article per day, for one month. Pure hubris, incited when a stroll through our own archives led first to reexamining the Odysseus Pattern Astartes Greatbow and then to the exchange quoted above.

Don’t uncork what you can’t contain.
