Stole Familiar – a treasure for D&D

Stole Familiar
Wondrous item, uncommon

At first glance, you cannot even say from which animal the fur of this moth-eaten stole originally came.

Its real worth only becomes apparent when a wizard casts find familiar while wearing the stole. Then, the spirit may slip into the garment in which case it counts as an undead. In all other regards, it acts and functions as any other familiar. However, it can also “play dead” in which case it cannot be told from a rich, well-made stole (without moth damage and made from the fur of the beast the familiar resembles).

Why D&D?
Good question. We could have gone for some other system with familiars, but D&D was on our minds from other entries anyway and also was quite simple to do.

Loot-a-Day is a month-long German blogging challenge by fellow German blogger Greifenklaue, who was inspired by ArtifactaDay which we ran last August as a counterpoint to RPGaDay in Germany. We followed up on this with two more marathons of daily content about artificial creatures and science-gone-too-far, respectively, and now Greifenklaue seeks to spread the format.
