Aiolos Inhalator
So called Aiolos inhalators are devices of questionable provenance, sometimes turning up amongst the possession of navigators – especially members of renegade houses. They come in vastly different shapes and sizes but invariably include some sort of mouth piece, nasal tubes or face mask connected to any type of opaque container. After a single use, an Aiolos inhalator is said to be “empty” – although that does not seem to be the best term for neither the Inquisition nor the Adeptus Mechanicus were ever able to detect any actual contents or residues within confiscated inhalators. Despite this, there is little doubt of the devices’ missing contents’ effects upon members of the Navis Nobilite, with navigators suddenly being able to perceive uncannily short and quick paths and courses through the immaterium after inhaling from the devices.
A navigator using an Aiolos inhalator while steering a vessel must make a challenging Willpower test. Each degree of success or failure on this test substracts, respectively adds 1d10 days to the base duration of the warp passage (down to a minimum of 0 days). This is before consulting the navigation chart to determine the final duration of the voyage.
If anyone other than a navigator tries to use an Aiolos inhalator, that person immediately gains 1d5 Corruption Points and 1d10 Insanity Points. If the attempt is made while aboard a vessel in the warp, the vessel goes off course without a chance by the vessel’s navigator to prevent this (however, the final travel time is still be determined based on the navigator’s efforts).
