Abd al-Azar (male Nistaani Shaman 6) is the village shaman and as such the highest local religious authority and one of the pillars of both the community and its traditional conservative power structure. He makes no secret of his loathing for the internationalist government and its officials or of how appallingly dangerous and godless he believes their reform plans to be. The first strands of grey in his black hair and beard together with the dignity of his station make him appear older than he really is.
Khurshid Sher (male Nistaani Warrior 5/Dervish 5) is an outsider in the village treated with fear and reverence in equal measure. In both his appearance and interactions, the follower of a mystic sect seems just as harsh and timeless as the land itself and he demonstrates a sublime desinterest in mundane matters such as who governs in Koba, the taxes levelled or the redistribution of land.
The two religious poles of an as of now still nameless village in Al’Istaan, that is planned to be the first location visited by the members of the Red Fleet and Kommissariat at the outset of the URRS intervention in a new (and also as of now still nameless) campaign of The Red Star.
Using the dervish as a source of calm and the shaman as the focus of hostility and aggression is a conscious subversion of tropes, but is also meant to underline the volatility of the situation, the potential for violence not yet fully unleashed, that the Red Fleet and especially the characters enter into with little if any understanding of what is going on.
