Mechanicus Dental Implants: Chainjaw – an implant for Warhammer 40,000

The techpriests’ quest for ways to overcome the sin of being flesh knows no anatomical bounds. It encompasses all parts and all functions of the human form, not least the body’s energy supply, the act of feeding and process of digestion. Amongst the range of Mechanicus dental implants with their sometimes radical restructuring of the uppermost parts of the digestive tract is the so called chainjaw. This implant replaces some or all of the bearer’s teeth and jaws with one or more short chainblades. These can either be rigidly mounted, resulting in the whirling teeth of the chainblades simply taking the place of the former teeth, or in case of more complex and venerable systems can be attached to articulated mounts, with the individual blades moving, extending and retracting as required to saw apart food – or other things.

In their simplest form, which can also be found outside the Adeptus Mechanicus, the implant uses a single relatively large chainblade, sometimes little more than a crudelyy modified chainknife, fixed in place below the upper jaws. This modification usually has the lower jaws removed without replacement

In Dark Heresy and its related Warhammer 40,000 RPGs Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade and Only War, unarmed attacks by a character equipped with a chainjaw deal 1d5+Strength bonus R damage with the Tearing quality. Chainjaws are rare.
