Thinking about what kind of “artificial creatures” (the topic of a currently (in October 2015) ongoing German RPG bloggers’ carnival) work for The Red Star, one thing that came to mind was super-man (and super-soldier) programmes, especially the cliche of the Nazi super-man. So we set out to adapt this trope for The Red Star:
Of all the programmes designed to create the new man, the Aryan Nationalist Volksreich’s Blutquell organisation has become the most widely known as well as the most infamous. It was, however, far from the only one, with the URRS, the WTA, the nations of the Great Continent and other powers all around the globe all working towards the same aim. Scientists, generals and ideologues all trying to remake man according to their own vision, carefully selecting the most promising specimens, testing and improving their physical health and fitness and trying to instill these “pure” vessels with equally “pure” minds by shielding them from all the useless and distracting influences like family, love and friendship.
None succeeded.
At most, their designs yielded creatures crippled if not in body, then in soul. However, their emotional coldness and ability to endure physical pain resulting from their torturous trials meant that the criminal Aryan scientists at least touted Blutquell as a success. Much good did it do them. What became of those of their creations who did not die as part of the last levy of child soldiers amidst the rubble of the defeated Volksreich, is mostly unknown.
Blutquell characters can sometimes be found as agents or mercenaries working for Western intelligence agencies such as the BCI or as members of various neo-Aryan terrorist organizations.
Blutquell characters are human, but the following special rules apply to them:
Ability Modifiers: -2 Wisdom, -2 Charisma.
Immune to Pain: Blutquell characters are immune to non-lethal damage.
Almost Soulless: Blutquell characters suffer lethal instead of non-lethal damage when kasting protocols or spells. After death they automatically become shades.
