In my eyes, The Red Star belongs to a group of games whose settings make heavy use of anachronistic national cliches and images commonly associated with certain regions or nations mixed with mythological elements and straight-up fantasy. This is more true for the Campaign Setting than it is for the comics, simply as the comics show us only a narrow selection of the world while the Campaign Setting paints a far broader picture which then serves to underline this impression of the anachronistic archetypes.
This was the backdrop, before whcih the idea to flesh out the terracotta army of the first emperor of China for use in The Red Star was born.
Since the time of the first Dragon Emperor, the people of the Lands of the Dragon share their lands and lifes with creatures made of burnt clay. The Terracotta Warriors were the backbone of the armies with which the first Emperor united the empire and they served as imperial bodyguard to his successors. Later dynasties and the governments to follow in the wake of the empire saw their influence and status decline but they never entirely vanished from the Lands of the Dragon which they had helped to form, same as they themselves continued to be formed from its clay.
