Lands of the Red Star – 10 countries not mentioned in The Red Star Campaign Setting

Ten countries which are not mentioned in The Red Star comics or Campaign Setting but which would make interesting places to visit in a game or set a campaign in:

  1. Angola
The Angolan decolonisation, the following civil war and the foreign interventions during this were the main inspiration for the foreign aid campaign recently sketched out in Play, Comrade!.
  2. Ireland
Well, Northern Ireland mostly, so you could claim that this is already covered via the description of the UK (Isle of Lions) in the Campaign Setting – that description makes no mention of Northern Ireland, though, so there.
  3. Japan
In dealing with the Cold War and its aftermath we are also looking at the US presence in Japan and at the later American fears of a future economically dominated by Japan. Also: Red Heat meets RoboCop 3 meets Black Rain.
  4. Yugoslavia
Partisan myth, block independence, civil war, break-up – a lot of stuff to feed into a game.
  5. Korea
  6. Two countries for the price of one, and the first direct air battles of the Cold War.

  7. Cuba
  8. From Che to Gitmo.

  9. Libya
  10. Terrorism! Amazon guard! Arab Spring!

  11. Nicaragua
  12. Exemplary for things to do in South and Middle America, revolution, guerilla, Monroe doctrine, drugs, (Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker).

  13. Austria
  14. The Third Man and Vienna as an espionage hotspot.

  15. South Africa
  16. When you look at post-colonial Angola you also have to look at South Africa.
