The Calypso Reach – Homer in Warhammer 40,000

A Reading from Homer by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema
Homer-a-Day, Day 20: Calypso

The Calypso Reach
For a stellar region unclaimed by the Imperium, the Calypso Reach offers a stunning wealth of worlds suitable for human habitaton, rich in resources and yet free of alien influence. This is not to say that the Reach does not harbour hostile xenos or barren, mineral poor rocks circling in decaying orbits around dying stars. However, the sheer potential of available worlds ripe for settlement and exploitation far outweighs the danger of whatever meagre resistance any of the local powers could hope to muster. What kept the Calypso Reach from the Imperium’s grasp for so long are the same circumstances which also seriously curtailed pre-Imperial human colonisation, the unique navigational hazards of the region. Powerful, seemingly almost actively perfidious warp currents make it far harder to steer away from and out of the Reach – and sometimes even individual star systems within it -, than it is to enter the region in the first place and threaten to trap or wreck any would-be explorer… or conqueror.

yandere: […] Homer weeks for 40k.
blut_und_glas: […] Homer-a-Day?

Homer-a-Day – one Homer inspired Warhammer 40,000 article per day, for one month. Pure hubris, incited when a stroll through our own archives led first to reexamining the Odysseus Pattern Astartes Greatbow and then to the exchange quoted above.

Don’t uncork what you can’t contain.
